What oil means to us

When we established our business, oil was mainly used in votive lights.
It was treated as extremely precious and offered to Shinto or Buddhist deities, as well as being used to illuminate our lives.
At the close of the Meiji era, about 150 years ago, oil started appearing on dining tables in this part of Kyoto.
The use of oil changed over time, from being a precious commodity to an indispensable ingredient in home cooking.
Our hope is to enable our customers to get to know more about oil, the presence of which we have come to take for granted.
With this in mind, we curate a selection of oils of the finest flavor and quality.
